how to play stock Hatsuharu?

6km torpedo

6.7km detection range

9.3km gun

I don't know how to play this at all

I'm used to the old hatsuharu with 8km 67kn torpedo

but now the captain is on akitsuki and the stock torpedo is only 6km

I find myself hardly contributing to the team

now I only do spotting, poping smoke for the allies, or just scaring away the enemy with smoke

I can hardly deal any damage

if I fire at <9.3km, the CA and BB, especially some scharnhorst, can sink me within 2 salvo

if I torp at <6km, I'm simply dead

All BBs in the front which I can engage, are so smart that they will turn and give you big hits if you engage them

they will even stay some distance from the corners that I can't strike them at the corners

While the noob BBs are all staying behind the CAs that I can't survive if I get spotted near them

can somebody teach me how to CQC the BB with torpedo?

or tell me how to make use of the stock hatsu?

I'm not going to skip it with free exp as I would better save them for the harder grind

and I believe there should be something to learn in the stock hatsu

Before anyone can give you any advice. ^^^ this attitude needs to change. Ask CAs to help not BBs.

On the side note as an IJN DD you're not assigned to go alone. Like USN or Russian DDs can do.

You are experiencing the problem for gunboat dd with poor guns and sucky torps.

I suggest that you hug island and play cautiously. Island ambushes are very good for stock ships with rather weak firepower.
Avoid gunfight and try to provoke the enemy into coming into your smoke or pass islands where you have them at your mercy.
Try preverse 1 torp spread for emergency

best way to deal with it is grind free exp and research 10km torps

hug island and find busy ship like bb or ca fighting other ship and ambush them.

Being completely honest here YOLO rush your game until you have enough XP to get the 10km torps. In It's stock config you're not going to have many good games especially on the more open maps.

What I mean was that the less intelligent enemy BBs stay behind their CAs and I can't torp them

I tried hugging islands but the enemy BB seldom pass the islands

and they often avoid passing island until there's sufficient support

even when they do pass, they are so smart that they always keep some distance away from the island so that I can't torp him

so when I pop out the island there's enough time for the BB to give me a big salvo and turn away casually

and even if he doesn't turn away, I will definitely receive huge damage since it takes >10s to get close enough to launch a deadly salvo

 - You charge in close enough to shoot your guns

 - smoke

 - use your guns. launch torp if enemy is coming at you.

but when I charge in close enough to shoot my guns, the enemy will be able to deal severe damage on me

not only the CAs rain shells on me, the BB(especially the German ones) are also eager to sink me

Once I got spotted by a fubuki and an enemy Scharnhorst(>10km away) immediately take me 50% of my HP

the next minute the fubuki spotted me once again and the next second the Scharn takes my other half

I feel so bad when I find my DD stands no chance against BB

even though i used Hatsuharu, i tend to forget that i have torp on her sometimes. :teethhappy:

Only because i was too caught up in gunfighting another DD that i completely forgot about her torps.

 - Don't wait until you get spotted. Pop smoke if you can shoot an enemy BB then spam HE.

 - Try to avoid areas with enemy DDs unless you can accurately shoot while avoiding their shells at the same time.

 - If you're spotted, immidiately turn away. Don't smoke, unless you're cornered.

 - You're a gun boat at stock. Use your guns. Torpedoes are secondary weapons.

Honestly I think you should just grind some co-op or free exp for the torp, otherwise your only option for racking damage is to smoke and shoot while hoping for enemy not to get out of your tiny 8,4km range. Stock Hatsu < stock Fuso and even fully upgraded it is still garbage.

I did play Hatsu with stock config and fully upgraded with purely earned EXP (0 Free EXP use)

Basically i looking for the weaker flank and wait for enemy then ambush them, since enemy moving toward me i can preemptive my torpedoes at 7.5 - 7km and when i flood enemy ship i try to set them on fire with superior 5 guns hull A fire power.

Let enemy taking the fight to you and strike back id say :D:D:D

Try to stay alive until the teams thin out a little, even if you have to spot without firing some of the time. With a bit of luck the enemy DDs will have died and the situation will allow for better attack chances.

Here're some tips.

  1. Rely heavily on guns
  2. Camo paint helps
  3. AFT is an absolute must. If you don't have it, rely on the relative accuracy and reliable shell flight characteristics
  4. Use stock hull. Having 5 shells flying towards the enemy is better than 4. More turrets are better than 2 contrary to what others say. That has been my HatsuneDD back in the old days and it works well for me.
  5. Don't forget to use your teammates as sacrificial lambs

I need help here. Can someone please explain to me why the old HatsuneDD and the current HatsuneDD are bad? Because I find both to be perfectly fine ships.

See? most of the posts says the same as I did: You don't play stock hatsuharu in PvP. In most cases your team will be at a disadvantage because of you.

I use stock HatsuneDD and I exploit all 5 guns. How is that a liability to the team?

From what I gather thus far, not only from this thread but others as well, the fault lies in the inability for players to toggle between guns and torpedoes for IJN DDs. True they are torpedo specialists but playing up to the than Tier 9 Harekaze, you really need to make full use of your cruiser grade guns in conjunction with your torpedoes. Exploit the came rating of IJN DDs and the guns. Be one with the JP DD and she'll be one with you.

Torpedoes are indeed good ship killers but to gamble all your cards on the mental flexibility and agility of enemy players... Gambling on RNG seems like a better prospect. Like I say, take time to be one with the DD and she'll return the favour as well. The DD is an extension of yourself.

@OP

You are rather saving it for "harder grind" well then, I'm afraid to tell you that this is the "harder grind". As you know some ships are okay in stock, some are underwhelming but can work, other are almost unplayable which is where the current stock Hatsuharu and Fubuki at.

If you don't feel like using it anyway, I suggest going to Co-Op and gather the exp required as it would be very hard to make stock Hatsuharu work

@Velvet

Old Hatsuharu was bad in multiple ways:

HP

Top-Hull that reduces your firepower

Meager Speed that can be overtaken by many DD at that tier

Torpedoes that has to be used in precision due to the number of torps

Bad Stealth for a torpedo boat

Everything in t7 MM range can destroy her in one way or another
