I Just got myself a Cleveland. After i heard many good things about the ship, I thought maybe I can make some extra credits with it. But, boy am I wrong. Every enemy ships within range tried to kill me. Just now, I had to dodge a shells from 3 BBs and 2 CAs who concentrated their fire on me, at the same time, they ignored all the ships that sail in between me and them. I got citadel twice before I finally made it behind a cover of an island and stay there. I tried to peek-and-shoot, but every time my muzzle emerge from behind cover, every ships in range started to redirect their fire on me. The good thing is, they were so intent on hunting me, that they ignored all my other team mates who then proceed and finished them off and my team won the match. Is Cleveland is such a big threat that they would've go out of their way to kill it?

Clevelands are big and fat and their citadels are large and juicy and they have paper thin armor.

But I mostly shoot at them because I get triggered by their constant HE spam. :teethhappy:

And I thought Clevelands are very hard to citadel. Lol yes they really be a PITA(Pain in the you know where) so yeah I target them and always say my team to target Cheatland and lolanta.:P

For cruisers and destroyers, yes, For battleships? Nope, they are food if they are close. The good armor prevents a lot of over penetration that you would get in some other tier 6.

Hehe Now I remember getting citadels on Battleships. When I posted that I was thinking of my cruiser days :teethhappy:. But you know those annoying players who sit behind the island undetected and spit those shells(Yes those ships should be played like that) and thinking about it no wonder why Cleveland and lolanta are always targeted.

To OP I just gave you golden rule of playing Cheatland(stay behind an Island an spit those shells on those BBs) I'm sooo gonna regret giving this kind of advice

I had same experience.. but it took me some time and lot of losses to realise the real strenght in it beside its aa. Its still a good ship if u an find good location behind an island! Positioning seems to be very critical to me when using this ship.

What changes were made to the ship or to the metagame that nerfed Cleveland.

Tee

The Maximum Gun that AFT is now below 150 right? Main Battery of Clevland no longer get the buff if u choose AFT, only her AA got the buff.

Essentially one of the reasons the cleveland isn't as good as the other cruisers is the shorter ranged guns and orbital arcs. She was thought of as good before because she didn't have to compete with the cruisers that are here now that have longer range guns that have better arcs. It's not that she's bad, just not as easy to play as she used to be.

From my most recent experience with her I agree with the others, islands are your friend. You can still wreck destroyers who get too close and burn cruisers and battleships when you get a chance. I've also had some success escorting a battleship fairly closely when there are aircraft carriers, people like shooting the BBs more typically, especially if you dodge enemy shells enough. It's not for the faint hearted though, and can be risky.

well, cleveland did gain it's reputation of a cheatland because it was the only CA at tier 6 that just spams and spams and spams shells. so annoying.

Cleveland is actually very fun to play, you can easily get in the top 5 of your team if you can play it half decently. As a general rule of thumb, setting fire is king, and AP is great if you have the CE skill so you can pop around islands and scare even higher tier cruisers. Just remember you do not have torpedoes so do not get into engagements closer than 6km, and prioritise DDs because the HE hurts bad, doing on average 2k damage per salvo. You will get focus fired, so don't fight alone. If you are broadsiding a BB and it's too late to turn, jam on the brakes and rudder to dodge the shells. The Cleveland slows down relatively fast and can turn pretty well so you should be able to survive quite well. It's citadel has been made a little easier to hit now, so don't fight IJN cruisers with their 203s that can pen your bow.

It's a pretty fun ship, just that the shell arc is sub orbital, so it's more mind games at long range than it is aiming. The AA suite is pretty good too.

Yep, i follow that golden rule. Prioritized DD. But DD also learn to stay away from cleveland. With a slow arching shell, leading a fast and maneuverable target like a DD at long range is quite an exercise.

The question, OP is why the enemy wouldn't try to kill you.

If you are getting focus-fired, then maybe, juuust maybe, you've overextended.

Probably. The gun range is too short, I need to put myself in front of the others so that I can shoot at some enemies.

Oh in case nobody has said it, the cleveland CANNOT hold a flank by herself. You gotta play supportive in the cleveland and follow the team. If you are getting focus fired, it is probably a good idea to run away. Find islands to hide behind and sling shots over while other ships have no chance of hitting you

It has the best HP, armor and DPS of all T6 cruisers, and you still need range?

Yeah, because most players tend to shot at a closest target they can find, and that mean's Cleveland. HP, armor and DPS worth shit when you become the focus of half of the enemies total firepower. Plus, my Cleveland is still stock.
