What do you need to do in order to get the best out of the Cleveland?

So far I've played about 30 games in mine, and I'm struggling to contribute regularly.

Are there any little tips/ techniques or nuances with this ship that you all use? It's no secret that it's a well liked ship, and granted I like the AA, speed & dispersion.

I'm not sure if it's her detection range and inability to fire back at anything beyond 13km, long shell flight time, her wide turning circle (don't know if that's true or not, it just feels that way), or that she will get penetrated by a pea shooter at 20km or maybe a combination of all.

I try to place her in between the DD's & BB's, but since she gets detected early, she draws fire from all the BB's camping at the back, so as a result the game play has to be more defensive and I'm not supporting the other ships like I should be (especially the DD's) and it's having an all round negative impact on the battle.

Due to cowardice meta you can't just charge in like you used to be able to. Escort battleships, maybe the German one if they are pushing as they will soak up a lot of damage and you can give the German BB DD screening and AA. German BB will be your riot shield. And as of her arc, practice, practice, practice. You'll get used to it soon enough. You have to survive until the late game, this is when the ship will shine.

Have a look at this guy. He knows how to play the ship well

So far theses tactic below works for me

- Go to the collapsing flank stay behind island and lob shell over the mountains

- Get close with the cover to cover tactic get as close as 10km so you dont have to deal with suborbital shell

- Camp behind some hill and shoot anything that come into domination mode cap point.

- Find some good DD friend and go to collapsing flank let them get close and stay in DD smoke.

Yeah I see what you mean but usually the ships that I'm using as the riot shield are usually turning away and running.  Will watch the video though- thanks!

Never really used it that way- especially the over the mountain shooting. Will try that out. Thanks!

Yeah it's a massive disappointment when there's no CV's in the battle and you can't use your greatest asset.

And if you got matched with CVs Sniper-type players, you can just parked Cleveland beside your CV divmate and enjoy fireworks. :playing:

Sometimes I wish Cleveland have spotter plane too, so we can shoot over mountain without doing guesswork. :hmm:

At the start of the battle you can:

Support CV (if sniping takes place)

Support BB (from DD and CV)

Stay close to the team but make sure you can shoot enemies

Learn how to lead(You will just have to keep practicing)

Try not to be the main target of the enemies

Your preferred meat is DD at close range and BB

Fire shots at enemies who are behind islands

Fire shots at enemies when you are behind an island

Ctrl+Click enemy CV squads

Angle your ship when fired at

Whenever possible fire at the deck of ships to set em' on fire

It is possible to brawl with CA/CL of tier 6 and 7.(Your secondaries are decent and the 152mm AP is fantastic at broadside cruiser killing. Also, the Cleveland is very hard to citadel.)

Practice is right. I couldn't get the arc to work for me on the Cleveland, despite spam playing it at the start of the year for the ARP events.Wasn't till I played the T2/3/4 German cruisers till I could learn to lead right.I came back to the Cleveland a month or so ago and found I could hit things with it!

Probably not quite as much, but the German cruisers let you practice it at a higher ROF.

I found that with the ROF and just holding the fire button to make them machine guns you get a steady stream of shells you can walk onto the target.Eventually you get to lead the target fairly well, then I was able to transfer that to the Cleveland.

Go into random battle with a CV and put in the chat

1V1 ME CV I CHALLENGE YOU

*make sure you have the 7.2km AA

Just kidding don't bother doing that^. On a serious note, target lead is pretty far on the cleveland, but you get used to it after a while. Then you can become better armoured atlanta/ bigger annoying DD without torpedoes

The only bit of equipment that will truly make the Cleveland shine is a time machine.    It's glory days were well and truly killed off once the game went full release.    As people have said, the shell arc can be overcome by practice.

It's nickname of the cheatland is just a bit of history now.

I only take it out for payback on CVs when they are being a pain in the butt these days.

Of course MM usually likes to make sure it ends up in games with no CVs so it doesn't work.
