It is almost as if players don't want to win

Just today, I played numerous games where either of the following happened:

-DDs YOLO in the face of the enemy (a Lo Yang Charged me in my Amagi at 5.4km, donno why)
-People do not defend cap and then lost to cap at 10min mark

-Cruisers overzealous to farm DD damage, Kaboom either in the face of me or the enemy

-BBs being pussy as usual
-BBs chasing enemies to the corner of the map (a Yamato player at that), instead of focusing on the objective of enforcing the cap against the enemies from the other flank, and proceeding to capture the next cap.  One would think that a Yamato player would be experienced enough to have some basic map awareness.

Overall, it was not fun having losses with many kills and medals, and above average damage.  Even with tier X players they still potato.  Why so many potatoes???

Event missions are on, people are prioritizing mission requirements over wins, that may be one of the reasons.

Meh its still dd damage, imagine what would happen when most people reach cv damage?

*random dd sailing in map edge intensifies*

Random Atago player going down an "empty“ flank only to kaboom in the face of the enemy's rear.

Seriously tho, it seems as it WG has yet to learn from the January Kongo and Myoko missions.

RIP winrate, but on the bright side, more solo carrying opportunities and potato harvesting.

WELCOME TO ASIA :B

:honoring:

Actually, I believe that the players are not more potato, but rather that I am more aware of what my team mates are doing and what it takes to win games.  Of course this means I do more damage, get more medals, and win more games.  But it really irks me when I see players making really simple mistakes, even when you remind them in chat things like "DDs pls don't yolo, run if cap is too hot" or "CAs pls don't charge, let BBs tank damage".  Only like 10% of the time people take your advice.  Sometimes, when you tell those merry go round lemmings to turn their guns and stop chasing a few enemies to a corner so that they can go for objectives, they reply to you "IM KILLING THAT TIRPITZ" or something.  Seriously, this is really disappointing.  Should I just be happy for high WTR and low WR?  Or is there actually a way to harvest potatoes for the win?

Oh, I think they did for awhile. Missions were damage, ribbons, shell hits, etc. No specific class or type of ship to target. Now, they must have some new summer interns who thought the ARP Myoko mission would be good to troll us. Sigh, such retards who do the missions.

I cant control our team (random battles) nor do I want too, so I try very hard to shoot every ship a little just to get their damage up, then hopefully they see a damaged ship and attempt to destroy one whilst running away (as they do).

Around 60% of team mates are just scared for whatever reason most likely they get gun shy.

It is a bit frustrating but live and let die is my motto, still a lot of fun and lead by example

I understand this completely, tier 6 and above I'm the biggest scardy around and hopeless for the team, but I'm a killer at the low tiers so help as I can..it's just about learning and forgiveness is a wonderful thing :)

Oh boy.  At least you are not the one IJN Torpedoboat in ranked battles solo charging a BB and ignoring objectives.

But even I was surprised when I saw an enemy Yamato YOLO into a cap, our friendly Yamato chasing ships to map corner, and a DM flashing broadside 3km from my 10 x 16.1" cannons on my Amagi (kaboom with 3 citadels), all in the same game.  Random players never cease to surprise me

the last 3 days I have played I have been put with players that run away as soon as they take one hit and their in BB's and hide the rest of the game and won't fight or I have BB's that run into the battle in as though they can move like DD's and die. I know I can't win every game and i'm ok with that but I have not won a game in 3 days because of these players and their players at teir 6 and above

Thus, divisions.  My WR in divisions is at least 5% higher, for the obvious reason that there would be two fewer idiots on your team.

Since dieing so much in T6 and above I've been watching with eagle eyes what others do.

It seems everyone is relying on a "less experienced Captain" (usually me) to go in deep and that way all attention is on my instant destruction, at that point the rest will come close and fight.

If no one does this (not me anymore) the battle progress slowly and opportunist as a ship comes to the edge of gun limits.

Since my un-upgraded Hipper at the time had 16km guns I had to be THAT PERSON who ran close or basically ran away.

I'm still looking hard at how to get good at this.

I tried Island hiding yesterday, didn't work out well so won't be doing that anymore, oh had my 1st win in the Hipper yesterday as well, 1 of 18 played, not that I helped a lot with doing 42k damage

Get a cleveland, get in there, set fires like no one ever has before, screw over enemy CVs and put the rest of your team to shame with that mad XP from all the ribbons.

"Getting in there" would be a problem, if you have enemy BBs with 30% hit rate (me included).  Also, you may get tons of xp and credits, and still lose.  Losing 5 or so matches while topping your team in XP is extremely disheartening, especially if you get every type of ribbon and 5 medals while killing half the enemy team and dealing 40% of the damage.  It always amazes me how DDs would not go for free capping XP, or how Cruisers would push INTO an already captured zone only to die to enemy fire.  I'd imagine that after playing like 2000 games to get into tier X they would have some semblance of game sense to not potato around.

Please do not do that, really.  Cruisers are not for taking damage, they are for sustained damage over time, killing destroyers, AA escort, and other tasks.  They are a versatile class of ship that you can play in different ways depending on how the game progresses.  If you "go in deep", all you do is to feed the enemy a free kill, granting them more points, and granting your team fewer guns later on in the match.  Generally speaking attacking in WoWS without any BB tanking is quite ineffective, barring some outlier cases of bad RNG for the opponents.  At tier VII and above BBs have 16 inch guns, which can penetrate most cruisers through the bow, and basically from any angle lower than the auto ricochet angle through the belt.

There are 2 ways to make your team grow balls:

Be the DD, or the Cruiser supporting the DD, who kills the enemy's scouts, thus giving your team more confidence to advance.

Be the BB that halves the health of the lead enemy ship, and pushing ahead.  If your team sees enemy ship kaboom, or BB pushing, they have more confidence to push.  And don't pussy out if the you are in a BB and you outnumber the enemy, that is just asking to lose the game.

YOLOing early is something you should absolutely avoid.  Look for opportunities to unleash damage, and stay in the fight, especially for cruisers where DPM on large ships and DD killing is important later on in the game.
