Atlanta "Special Offer" worth it?

So as my question states, I've been looking for a higher tier premium and primarily enjoy play USN ships as the slow turret traverse of the Myoko/Atago and IJN in general don't really suit my playstyle. (Tirpitz is too expensive :P)

I also enjoy the shell spamming playstyle of USN DD's and was thinking for a long while of getting the Atlanta, is the ship worth the cost and is this sale/bundle worth getting?

I've already got the Yubari, Murmansk and Anshan and prefer to have a premium I can train captains on

atlanta is kinda... meh, you can consult eurobeat's videos on how to atlanta, but i personally i dont think that i have never lost out against a atlanta in pretty much any ship, even with USN and SVN DDs if the same tier... so i vote nay to the atlanta

Like Melon said, Atlanta requires a different kind of play style. You have ridiculous RoF and a large amount of guns but your armour is thin enough not to be funny. Close in (less than 7km ish), she can be deadly to quite a few ships, at range get ready to use #15 on your bino scale as a minimum. For distance I use her as an area denial kind of weapon or as a general harasser, but close in you can 2 salvo shotgun (maybe even 1) a DD in the right circumstances. Alternatively you can use her as an AAA platform/anti-DD guard as well, her 5inch DP's for AA can be quite nasty.

I once detonated an Atlanta with Myoko's HE. That was the first and only time I've detonated a non-DD ship with HE.

Make of that what you will.

It's a very good ship. Once they fix islands pulling shots down into them ,while an enemy ship is still targeted behind the island, that an atlanta can easily fire over, it will be better.

I like any ship that cv's are scared of.

I like any ship that dd's are scared of.

There's loads of more things about it,  but if you can handle constantly resetting your attack, to back off knowing it won't work and trying again and again until you get the opportunity, that's what it's about, waiting for the opportunity to get in and harass enemy. One game earlier this week, I spent 15 mins sailing, trying to get a good angle of approach to attack while remaining safe and had not fired a single shot because it was too dangerous. Then in the last 5 mins, I got my chance, and ended up top of team with the win. That's what she can do.

I think you can earn more xp from providing AA for team now too, which is great. The Atlanta and MK47 aka Kutuzov (name changed in new patch) are my favourite ships in the game.

You like CV's then?

On a serious note.

Atlanta is a quirky ship. Only thing I have to add that hasn't been said, try to use a concealment build if ever you buy her. It's funny how your AA already kills planes before you get into their detection range. It also helps out when you brawl as its one of the Atlanta's forte'. She's better for late game engagements when most ships are out of formation anyway which makes escort duty for the fleet or the CV being good start choices.

i think she's way better now, because she wont lose as much guns like before. she's great at some map with low hills that will provide cover and allow you to shoot over. not really great at long range though. at 10+km you will hardly hit a dd while they can hit you back. they are my favorite target on my tier 7 russian dd kiev.

hey, atago turret traverse are not that slow (compare to myouko and other IJN cruier.) her HE damage ridiculous too, can damage up to 15,000 with HE alone. (planning to buy her once she got discounted)

If you're in doubt, watch this, you'll 10/10 want it.

this ship is still terrible in my opinion....but i manage to kill a atlanta in it... so yeah.. atlanta have weak armor.

Blyskawicas is a solid DD at tier 7 if you don't think the Atlanta is worth it though obviously its captain training capablities is...extremly limited :P.

Raise your guns to max elevation before aiming and leading at somebody behind an island to avoid this bug altogether.

Atlanta is a good ship if played right, but can be quite frustrating on occasion (places like Ocean or when dumped in a very passive team).

As others have said, you want a concealment build and play a lot like a gunboat DD that's out of smoke charges, use cover and only open fire when you are about to be detected and have a good shot lined up (your first salvo is usually the best as it catches them unaware, though you can still get them with the later ones if your aim is good or they're distracted) or when they're distracted with teamates, being prepared to immediately get out of the area and hold fire to drop off detection (assuming your outside detection range).

Your main job is AA and DD hunting (amazing how many people ignore DD's unless they're point blank range and lose the match because of it. They should be fired on as soon as seen so that even if not hit/sunk it makes then back off and spoils their plans. Besides a few hit's on a DD will give more xp than a few hits on a BB due to XP being % of total HP dealt rather than raw damage numbers). After that, try lighting everything up you can with it's insane ROF and number of guns. Always keep changing speed and course.

Shoot behind cover and sneak up on DD's (use the minimap and anticipate where they'll go and you can catch them unawares at close range as you or they come round the corner, you'll delete a full health DD in 2 salvo's or less at close to mid range, often before they even react.

Despite what people say, you can still carry in it, even when there's no CV in the match, it's just not "easy mode" to do so (and she's better since the last patch now her turrets aren't knocked out as soon as someone looks at you!).

i wish WG will add an option where you can do a try run for a ship, to test what it feels to use it. (only against ai) before you can buy it.

They do - it's called "public test", happens before each major patch

Not really don't fire immediately on a DD in atlanta, you have no shell velocity to hit them (Unless they nuub) at that range. Wait a bit, say around 8 to 7km? The DD won't get to move more than 2km if you concentrate fire on him.

Now, the atlanta is a pretty crucial ship for those ribbons and main battery hits mission. Hide behind a island and spam HE. 200 ribbons is easy
