I found a report (pdf) on the internet about the survey expedition to the wreck of Haguro by Explorers Club which was pretty interesting, at least for me, to read and I wanted to share it.

The ship's history is written in details in the report so I just took the main point and slapped them down here:

The Japanese Heavy Cruiser Haguro, one of the four Myoko-class cruisers was the last famous Japanese ship to be sunk in WWII. She was sunk in "Operation Dukedom" where the Royal Navy sent 5 destroyers just for the purpose of sinking her. She was escorted by the destroyer Kamikaze which survived the encounter and managed to escape. Kamikaze later returned and rescued about 300 of Haguro's surviving crews.

She was sunk in Strait of Malacca which is now one of the world's busiest main shipping lane.

Good to know what truly happened to these ships that fought significant battles. It is also important to know that there were naval battles fought in the Indian Ocean, not just the Western Pacific battles that were more famous and known.
