A new fire mechanic?

Fires as they are seem to be a cause of problems, perhaps a new mechanic is required that still allows for HE to cause fires and hence fire damage, but isn't over the top.

One of the issues game balance wise is that big guns make the same size fires as small guns.

So here's the suggestion, have different sizes of fires. Small fires start from hits from small calibre guns (5" and 6"), medium fires start from middle sized guns (8" and 12") and large fires could be started by larger calibres. So small guns can still cause lots of fire damage, there should be a chance to upgrade the size of a fire given each hit. Fires could then also be put out incrementally (ie the fires gradually shrink in size) meaning large fires take significantly longer to put out completely.

Also I think the location of the fire should impact the amount of damage taken. The very bow or stern shouldn't do so much damage compared to other locations.

Fire could have secondary effect instead of doing lots of damage. Smoke and the distraction of putting the fires out should reduce the effectiveness of modules in the area. Smoke could perhaps limit visibility and slightly (very) increase something like dispersion when fire directors are obscured by smoke.

World of Battleships (and heavy cruisers...sort of), everyone!

As if a destroyer does not have a difficult life...

geez guys, the idea is you can still do fire damage, but it depends on the size of your guns... just like every other form of damage in game.

This would help cruisers as well, and anyone else that catches fire. The secondary effects of fire would also make BBs more vulnerable to planes (AA modules affected by smoke) and less effective (smoke affecting fire directors causing less accurate fire)

It's clear something needs to be done about the fire mechanic you got a better idea?

Not entirely sure your idea would work within the mechanics of the system, but i don't mind the idea...

Personally maybe an adjustment to the % rate of a ship catching on fire, sure continue to do the normal amount of damage he does when it hits. But lower the rate that it catches something on fire.

I get your idea, we shared the idea. 3-fire level: small, medium, & large.

A fire started on Battleship by destroyer shouldn't be blazing large instantly. Unless the Destroyer fire HE on same spot, it'll should grow larger flame as well as increasing the flame time.

A fire started on Cruiser by Battleship should be blazing large.

A fired started on Cruiser by Cruiser should be blazing on medium-scale.

A fire started on Destroyer by Cruiser & Battleship should be blazing on medium scale at max. Why medium at max? Because poor ship, sailing a hell ship.
