What's your take on her? Is it worth it to get an Atlanta?

GOOD DAY FELLOW CAP'NS! & THANK YOU FOR OPENING MY THREAD! :honoring:

I hope your New Year's bash went well coz I did... Under the billowing smoke of firecrackers that is... So anyways I'll get straight to the point (some of you are probably groggy or hung over)...

The Atlanta, is she worth adding to the collection? I'm asking this to get more information from more experienced players because premium ships are mighty expensive and I'd like to know what I could be getting from my leftovers Post-holidays Bonus pay...

I'm picturing her out to be a Hang back-Support ship, DD Hunter, AA Ship (unlike my Murmansk who I like to use aggresively screaming "ARGHH! MOTHERLAND!!" all the time)... and as a solid income and XP earner... Looking at her stats it seems that the Cleveland is better but at Tier 6 and lower rewards it does a seem a bit grindy solely relying on my Cleaver... It's come to a point where having multiple elite ships + doubloons makes grinding a lot tolerable IMO...

So, what'd guys think? Should I get her? and if I did what should I watch out for?

THANKS A BUNCH FOR THE READ & HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!  :)

Only in my view ok ... she is on the fragile side having 11km range is a problem everyone gets to hit you hard before you get to them even as support. However she can put out an enormous amount of fire which BB and DD hate one you start a lot of fires on BB's and 2 you can chase DD's with your fire till something sticks. AA is pretty reasonable as well.

Don't. Save your money and buy PAN PAKA PAN instead. Atlanta has her turret made of tissue paper. One salvo from a Cleveland can damage or even knock out 3 turrets. There is no reason to buy a tier VII cruiser that can't take on a tier VI cruiser.

Shes very Annoying

Super Annoying

but that's it

also. is atlanta your only option to buy?

IMO. mikail panpakapan is better get than atlanta

I don't know... The Kutuzov is kind of iffy from what I've been gathering, I usually don't bite for anything that's "New" I'll have to give the Mikhail a pass for now (let it build up a record) plus it's Tier 8... I don't think I'm ready for the Tier 8 life yet, I'm just starting to get settled on Tier 6... and I've been in combat with and against Mikhails and well uhmmm... I'm sorry... But with and against Atlantas it was kind of "Love-at-first-sunk". Kind of like how I was motivated to get a Cleveland...

My view, yes

She's actually a shell spammer, and if you utilize her correctly she's also citadel thrower

Beware thou, she has an armour of paper

Correct me if I'm wrong but how do 127mm guns turn into Citadel throwers? and yes I am aware of her Tissue paper armor... I've sank a couple when I was overtiered in my Omaha but that was after I was screaming for it to stop lobbing shells at me and close to dying... Imagine my horror when I solo flanked in my Oggy and there were three of them staring down at me...

Ah yes, the Atago is currently holding second place in my To-buy-and-not-tell-Girlfriend-because-she'll-wring-me-dry-list. The reason why Pan Paka Pan holds second is I can hunt these down on my Cleaver with confidence... They're very easy to pen (I'm sorry) but that speed, range, and firepower is something worth looking at... and those torps! d*mn the torps on an Atago are tricky...

As I understand it the shell arc on the Atlanta is sub orbital, making advanced fire training useless.

At close range, as an ambush ship, lethal, been caught out once.

The shell arc is what put me off. I got the Mikhail 2 days ago. Which is as Fragile as a glass vase, butoh my does it print credits!

I nearly went for the Atago, but I have decided to take a punt  on WG doing its usual and doing OP Russian bias...:sceptic:

The Atlanta is a blast - if you play it right. You have to stick with teammates and hope they draw more fire than you. As far as shooting goes spam the HE like there's no tomorrow. The unlimited AA ability was good - until CV's got nerfed so you don't see them much anymore. The torps are next to useless.

Here's one I just played. Not bad for an average game:

the problem is mikail bisa will be gone at jan 5th. and we dont know when will she enter the premium shop again...

as for panpakapan.

u might be able to hunt them in ur cleve. since its not rare that the atago user is some1 who jump the tier and dont know how to utilize her properly.

but if u meet some1 that good at using her. shes scary. damn scary. i once even run away from her in my ibuki. atago is hurt :(....

also for torps, atago has best firing angle from all of IJN CA.

as long as u have tasted the furutaka/aoba/pepsicola/yorck, and able to handle them nicely. u will like atago.

for atlanta.

annoying shell spammers :/

depend on the captain who drive her. she can be a fine ship if u able to exploit her plus point.

be warned tough. shes using a DD gun/BB 2ndary gun as her main armanent. expect it to blow up easily. expect getting atleast 2-3 turrets perma broken each match.

as good as atlanta can be. i'd still prefer atago/mikail as they are absolutely better ship.

This thing , when used properly and wisely, is a floating gatling gun.

Fragile, but amazing rate of fire.

Excellent AA.

Use it as a support ship, not as a "charge of the Light Brigade" unit and it will repay your purchase many times over.

I LOVE it!

Those clips may well be the strangest thing I've seen all year

All year? It's day one of 2016 :teethhappy:... It's going to get a lot stranger from here I guarantee it... Heck, we're even getting glowing ships right off the bat here :teethhappy:

Glowing ships? ... I'm guessing that's something to do with the Arpeggio blue steel thing ... I think I'll probably pass on that since I have never seen it or even heard of it until this game started its collaboration

Isn't that ship worth 1 good games on Steam ? (Also to all above Tier 7 Premium Ship)

Even Kutuzov with it bonus doubloons worth 1 AAA games in Steam.

Please, spent your money wisely.

I find Atlanta very situational. For every good game there are five bad ones. The guns are rubbish and she gets citadelled from every angle.

She is also a poor money maker because it is difficult to do a lot of damage.

Save your money and get any tier 8 ship. They are all better and easier to play than the Atlanta.

Hmm.. i got it before, thinking it would be a good money maker... in which i was correct.  Money and Exp flow in after every game.. win or loss...

BUT...

Do i excel in being an Atlanta Captain?  NOPE...... it is truly one of the rather Hard Ships to master in My opinion.    The Murmansk and Bylaskawika are definitely for DD players like me, not the Atlanta though.

Nowadays, I use my Atlanta as a MoneyMaking CV/BB AA escort.

I've had it a few weeks now, and I actually don't mind it.

Yes it's fragile, but it can do well on most maps (at least for money making, not necessarily big damage numbers), you just have to know how to play her.

  • I find escort is meh, as it's usually out of your range of engaging, and only do this if there's cv's around (which is rare). However, it's pretty stealthy for a cruiser (actually about the same as your fire range), so if your not firing (and you won't be due to the range limit), and when the planes aren't detecting you, you can sit out the damage unless a dd get's close (which is part of why your there anyway!). I usually only do this early to try to savage the first strike or 2 then move to the second point
  • If not escorting, play like a low tier Russian DD or combat infantryman. Use cover like crazy and pop in and out of it trying to set things on fire. you can completely close down map choke points like this. Switch to AP if they get real close and side on (around 6km from memory), it'll actually do more than the HE then, and remember the torps, only 4.5km, but if they get that close, they're screwed. Of course, this means if you get sent to Ocean map, your in a world of hurt most times (though there are exceptions!)

But it all depends on what you want I guess. I wanted a US ship for training commanders, hence getting the Atlanta over one of the more popular IJN or other ships, and I get the Kamikaze in a few days to do the same for the IJN side (I know it's not perfect for the BB and CL/CA guys, but it should be good enough), but it's working for me on that and being a good money earner on the side too, and I find it fairly fun to play (knowing I'll die about half way through the battle in most cases anyway, but I'll have made an impact in that time and helped my team a lot!).

With Advanced Fire Training the range isn't so bad but the shell lob means you'll really only be hitting BB's with any reliability. It's the most fun using it to ambush big targets at close range, preferably with their guns pointing the wrong way, because those torpedoes really do take people by surprise and the guns will turn anything into an inferno in no time. If you find yourself on a map like Ocean you'll probably be best used as an AA escort and for keeping DDs at bay, just use your team mates for cover.
