Whole teams melting all the time

Has anyone noticed lately that many (if not most) battles result in one team or the other just melting really quickly? I've been on both sides of this (both the winning and losing) and it's not really all that fun to easily win or be completely wrecked. I've been in games where half a team is demolished in the first couple of minutes, making for an obvious conclusion.

This is probably the most annoying when in ships with long reloads/turn around times on their weapons. You might only get a few salvoes/spreads in before you're overwhelmed or the enemy melts. It certainly isn't fun either way.

perhaps this is a by-product of the holiday season changing the server population. Not sure there's anything to be done about it.

It's not fun when you win?

I certainly enjoy it when the enemy team melts, especially if I had a major hand in it. I've also learnt to just roll with the times when my own team melts instead by carrying harder.

yeh totally.

all games are very one sided. i play carefully until i see my team has a brain,

then i push. i don't want to pay 200k to fix my izumo

cos a bunch of noobs just bought premium ships.

having said that being on the winning team is sometimes a letdown aswell.

you're all just chasing a few players into the croners.

matchmaking should somehow include skill levels,

but the MM can't even match ships properly yet so i think that might be asking too much.

in the end a GOOD GAME,

always seem to be two well matched teams

whether i win or lose these are the games i enjoy the most

i'm quite often on the noob team,

your readin skills are pretty bad.

and anyone who plays purely to win in the public servers is an imbecile.

winning = 10k credits,

sinking = -200k credits.

when i say noob team i mean when you have 4 ships left ,

and the other team is all still afloat,

the egos in this forum are astronomical.

i bet you're one of those people who check other peoples stats in the middle of the games.

i always lol at that

Haku I don't think that was called for, this kinda thing affects you no-matter your skill level. We're talking about whole teams performing poorly not just an individual.

Sometimes it's so bad the weaker team only sinks like one ship. I've had a game where I've sunk more ships than my entire team combined, and I only sank 3.

When the enemy melts so fast you often barely get a shot in, especially if you're a USN BB or CV. I had a game where the battle line moved faster than my ship, and I was in a kongo!

When your own team melts you suddenly find yourself alone against impossible (even for a unicum) odds. That's if you haven't made a mistake and died.

Neither situation is all that fun if you're looking for a good exciting battle and not just easy wins.

haha, he's not the first it's ok.

i have had this debate a few times. when half my team gets wiped out i usually retreat to the back of the map,

and that's when dead players are usually checking my stats :).

and complaining.

but i still save 100k. so meh.

i have a life, i can't play this game all day.

you'll notice he didn't link to my port with all the big meaty ships i've earned in 4 months ;).

or my survival rates. [which have slipped a little as i get killed in the damn floating coffin the izumo, to get to yamato]

i'm always baffled by people being obsessed with win rates in this game, it's very strange.

winning has basically zero value. staying alive and getting points is what gets you ships.

this confusion must have the WG laughing all the way to the bank

Sure, Sparcie. Over the course of 1 to 10 battles, I can understand, and I'll be the first to put my hands up and say "I'm sorry."

However, if you have 2,218 battles (at last check) and you have that kind of winrate, there's something fishy there. It can't just be "bad teams". He is the only common factor in those 2,218 battles. The margin of error is supposed to decrease as the sample size (number of battles) goes up. Statistics does not tell the whole truth, admittedly, but it is not a complete red herring.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

Classic Dunning-Kruger.

I have a life too, and I can't play this game all day. You got in more battles than I ever did across both CBT, OBT and Live.

you'll notice he didn't link to my port with all the big meaty ships i've earned in 4 months ;).

That matters...how?

or my survival rates. [which have slipped a little as i get killed in the damn floating coffin the izumo, to get to yamato]

If you have a high survival rate, and you have that kind of average damage (you didn't deal your HP in damage in any of your ships)...what does that say about how you play?

i'm always baffled by people being obsessed with win rates in this game, it's very strange.

winning has basically zero value. staying alive and getting points is what gets you ships.

This is a game that is inherently competitive; if you no longer go for the victory by any means necessary, you are no longer a good player because a good player should always be competing to win. The main motivation to all of us is to compete for victory, it's not to come 1st, or 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th, or 12th in terms of XP or damage. I play to have fun, yes, but I have fun by winning, and it so happens that I win 61.5% of the time.

I agree, it's the team's fault when I lose.

Because there is no I in the word team.

Likewise it's the posters' fault when I make snarky/sarcastic/cynical replies on the forums.

Regarding teams melting, I've noticed this as well. It comes from chance, initially, as one team finds itself in a brilliant attacking position while the other has blundered into a trap.

More often than not - about 57% of the time - I find myself in the team that has blundered into a trap.

If I am a) lucky and b) thinking quickly enough, I can survive the first five minutes, and then, win or lose, the game is more enjoyable. If not, my little Russian destroyer gets obliterated and I have a long wait before I can pick up the pieces and start again.

Regarding skill, I'd have to admit I'm an average to slightly below average player. I've got bad eyesight and I make "tunnel vision" type mistakes. If I'm interpreting some of the "uber-gamers" comments correctly I probably shouldn't be allowed to pollute the digital oceans with my unworthy presence. But look on the bright side. I make you guys look good. I inflate your XP scores. And until WG says I can't, I'm playing this game. Deal with it.

Well at least this is WoWs. World of tanks has had the same problem for a year or two. Most games are determined in the first 2 minutes. Its just painful. And totally the way WG wanted it.

WoWs is much better with most games not forgone conclusions. SO stick with it.

Whoa the snark is strong with this one. Are you guys capable of having a civil discussion with-out being derogatory? Stop picking on people who don't meet your elitist standards, sure he doesn't have good 'stats' but the vitriol isn't called for. Does it offend you if someone with less skill has an opinion? Make a point about what they're saying without the nastiness.

The whole point was not about individuals, but rather whole groups of individuals being wrecked nearly every game, whether that be on your team or the opposition. It sometimes makes the game less fun. It could be something to do with MM or it could be completely random. I simply asked if others had also observed it. No implications about any ones skill.

I completely agree with your post. It is not about individuals, but rather whole groups of individuals being wrecked nearly every game, but if he's throwing out that the only reason why he's losing is because of having rubbish teams, then I'm going to shut him down. It does not offend me if someone with less skill has an opinion, but it does annoy me that he is that he:

  • Thinks that rubbish teams are why he doesn't do well (all of us get it too, you know).
  • Has a life (like somehow we don't as well).
  • Denied win rates (this has been done to death before on this forum, on the WoT forums, on Wotlabs).
  • Tried to show that he survives most of his battles (even though his WR is rubbish, like somehow surviving a lost match is a good thing).

If he is being snarky, I should be allowed to return the favour.

Yes I have, too many one sided battles. Not complaining but I do agree that not much fun when your team gets wiped out your last ship left trying to battle 6 to 8 enemies, not much fun when your on winning side of that margin either. Like Sparcie, I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't happening so often, I think that's when it starts getting a bit frustrating for some of us, when it seems to be happening every other battlle. I personally enjoy a good close battle that gets you on the edge of your seat.

The game as a whole is much slower than World of Tanks. So, when mistakes are made (such as straying too close to the enemy battle line, for instance) it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to recover.

Interesting...

And here I am in my Taiho scrambling my planes wave after wave and here I have team mates that refuse to do anything even if the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against us.

I also have noticed this happening a lot recently, would be great if the matchmaking could include skill levels. Something needs to be done IMO this so called "Melting" is getting out of hand from what I have experienced.

I have noticed every low tier game I seem to win but at higher tiers my teams also just melt away every game. I have to play one ship 9 times just to get my first win. And the next day I played it again 4 times and four losses so I just gave up. I am really getting sick of it too, I am thinking to quit the game actually.

Exactly my problem too, then you have to defend the other side alone with probably one or two ship escort, and then you being obliterate by the enemy since they have 50/50 split.
