Game Play tips for Victory.

Been Playing US DDS since the start of open beta, and I have raked up quite a number of battles.  My Adjusting to WOWS Game play from tiers 1-6 Took some time, lots of trial and error and painful grinding finding if im a DD or CL person, thus a rather low 39% win rate at first.

Now, Ive been concentrating on Tiers 7 - 10 On the US DD line (Yes, its still quite hard specially in higher tiers) but the idea of using the Fletcher and Gearing appeals to me more then the Lower Tier Gunboats of the DD lin, and its alot of fun.  Now, Being Multipurpose ships, my chances of contributing to my team winning have been consistently going up, having a win rate from 39% - 45% and is still rising.

But I noticed EVEN In Higher Tiers, most of the games i play, Majority of players do not really concern themselves in WINNING the battle, but instead, they concern themselves on INDIVIDUAL Kills.  Honestly, Im expecting more team-play at this level, as that is the Focus of World of Warships.  Sometimes in my team, a Flotilla of 3 - 5 Battleships Chasing after a Lone Cruiser or Destroyer whose main objective is to LEAD our BBS AWAY from the cap points.  Thus resulting in a Loss, where we have 75% of our forces intact vs the enemies 15%. Or Cruisers that DONT touch the cap points any time during the game.   Etc etc, So frustrating at times.

Also Unlike World of Tanks, when ONE Tank can make the difference between a win or loss, In WOWS, TEAMWORK exponentially increases the chances of a win, but again, maybe because of the Language Barrier at times, real teamwork is rather rare.

Here are a few Tips for newer players on how to HELP your team win.

-  Know your Ships Role, its strengths and weaknesses

Each member of a team has a role to play,   Destroyers, Light and Heavy Cruisers, Battleships and Carriers, when played correctly and with cohesion with other teammates, contributes to a win.

-  Learn to Shift Roles in an Instant

Depending on the scenario, we should all learn to adjust for the survival of our team.  For Example, from holding the front line, suddenly Escort Duty is called for your teams CVS and BBS. Though, is not as important to many as it does not bring as much Credits as individual ships being sunk in the front.  But if Going on escort duty for a few minutes  will contribute to the survival of your CV, who can help keep TDs and DBs away from you when you start attacking Enemy ships, then... Escort Duty, being glamorous as it is, may reap profits in the end.

- Prioritize Capture Points (Specially in domination mode)

This will give you extra insurance specially when your team is loosing.  If your team has captured MORE during the beginning of the game, this means that towards the end, most of the time, your team will have MORE POINTS towards the objective which is 1k.  And yes, Even BBS and CVS with NO More planes should learn to cap

- "Eye for an Eye " or Going Kamikaze on other ships, is only a LAST RESORT.

You, with your ship, can contribute more if you are alive.  Staying ALIVE during the game, contributes to a greater chance of more destruction for the enemy.  Many DDS and cruisers rush to RAM the one another, which is an EQUAL LOSS to BOTH Teams IMHO.  Even sinking a higher tier ship of the same class at the same time as having yours sunk , may bring some sort of satisfaction to many, but eventually, Put into mind, YOUR TEAM SUFFERS from YOUR LOSS.

If you have to Die for the team, make sure that your Sacrifice will contribute to the teams victory.

-Communicate

Knowing the your intentions, or plans, can help your team strategize as well.

Well... these are just a few, If anyone can contribute more TIPS for others, please do so.

Happy Hunting Captains.

As a DD commander your best time in battle is at the end of the game, that is were you can really take control. Capping is handy, but try your best to be there at the end as that is were you can really hurt the enemy team.

Oh and don't forget to attack hard any IJN DD's that you come across.

Whilst the current points/XP/Credit system remains in place - I see no reason for players to adjust their play style - they simply aren't rewarded for it - I mean a DD could go an entire round, spotting, harrassing, capping etc. and not do very well (when they should) whereas another DD could go Kamikaze, sink a BB or 2 with a suicide Torp run and get majorly rewarded for it.

This is Good Advise as well.  Staying Alive to see the Fireworks in the end.

Isn't the reward of the team winning good enough?  Lol, maybe i should join the Bandwagon as well.  We all know in Tier 9 and 10, mostly we play at a loss of credits, specially when sunk.  but for me as long as the team Wins, this is OK.  Although I admit, i tend to point a finger at those in my team who dont get affected as much when the team looses. I guess my attitude in wanting that WIN has changed.

Honestly, Im expecting more team-play at this level

Don't expect too much, there's still a good chance that the majority of players on the highests tiers are the ones spending more money than thought into grinding.

By now a good chunk of players prolly got to tier X by simply grinding away, but I assume that the main wave has yet to hit.

(And then, of course, there are players like me who give no cakes about high tiers and dwindle along very slowly : P)

Lol, this is rather True.  To most, this is a game, and all the Eye Candy and Bangs and Whistles are what they want:P  nothing else.  Ranked Battles offered some respite to all this, the games were rather serious and it was my cup of tea.  But it didnt last long though.

Unlike other DD players, i tend to play aggressively at the beginning of the game. Draw the attention of the enemy out of my allies, also take advantage of my superior maneuverability to dodge incoming fire. But still, destroyers only dominate the battle from mid-game onward. Wrecking wounded ships and hunting down enemy destroyers.

Nearly up to Benson after grinding the Mahan, shame they took so long to buff the torps till now, but should make for some interesting gameplay :)

My go to role was to brawl out cap zones (unless I see a Kiev then I GTFO asap) and take out IJN DD's early, than find straggling BB's to fire at or ambush ships coming round corners, otherwise just stay back as much as possible and gun gun gun.

From tiers 2 - 6, because of the very low Torp Ranges of US DDS, i tended to do lots of Knife Fighting in the Cap zones.  This resulted in Many Many many Sunk ships.... under My COMMAND  :P

But when i got from tier 7 Up, i became Wiser, not to rush into blindly, but more of i had to Analyze the Team Line up of the enemy, How many CL/CAs, DDS BBS, and what CVS do they have.  My Approach will vary from Ultra Cautious, to Very Aggressive.

But again, during this, My hopes of survival also depended on my teammates, if they were COMPETENT enough to care :P

It depends - for some people it is, but for most it isn't. However if there was a greater emphasis (in terms of rewards/XP/Credits) for team play, then I would suggest we would start to see a shift in people game play style
