CV (Carrier) Air Craft AI: Questions and Improvements

Alright, I've asked this in the Off-Topic channel in the game, but I'll also ask it here so we can have a decent discussion on Air Craft that you launch from your CV.

A few times I've wondered why my planes just hover around the last command point I've given them, or if they are flying around me (which I sometimes let them do, out of habit so they can go after any planes trying to get near me) and I've died in which they act dumb. Especially torpedo bombers that have a full payload; they'll just fly around my dead sinking wreck, waiting for the enemy DD or Cruiser to shoot them down.

I know the plane AI needs a fair amount of improvement, but I would like to suggest some "reaction" to things like this. If you are sunk, let the planes have a reaction to threats that they are facing. For example, let's say you're in a Furutaka and I'm in my Zuiho. You torp me, I die because you got a devastating strike medal. My planes were set to "escort"/"fly around target" on my ship, instead of them just following their order, shouldn't they go after your ship in an attempt for vengeance?

What I'm suggesting is that when your planes are set to escort you, they will also have an "awareness" factor, and if they see an enemy ship torping you, either one or more of your planes will automatically go on the attack, then retreat back to your ship. This might open a can of worms and ragequits because your plane guardians just took out someone about to get a 6-kill streak.

Fighters do it right, if dive bombers or torp planes are coming into the radius of your ship, I've seen mine automatically fly over to them and start engaging them, but yeah. Would appreciate some more logic for the torp and dive bombers, if they are supposed to be protecting your ship.

Your thoughts?

you want them to do revenge right? (i prefer kamikaze instead:trollface:) ,it 's fine if implemented but i sense a lot whining thread a head...

in this case that must be pointblank range and it can be hurt your ally or yourself if AI torp your enemy in a bad direction. and again  whining thread a head...

same as above

P.S thumbs up for idea:D

Usually when I'm about to be sunk, I'll just set the loaded planes to do non-manual drop on enemy ship(s). If you managed to set the command just before you sunk, the planes will proceed with it and only return to your (sunken) ship location after the command was executed.

The bomber are so dumb when your ship destroy ....  maybe they can atleast make it self defense ... when the ship come close to where they fly around from last order CV give them .. it can just use (auto-drop) on enemy ship that come near them ... but again .. it maybe unfair for the ship cas CV already dead but you got attack from AI ....

^ can we allow them to join to another friendly CV as a "one-time" service. That'd be much better :D

I like this idea, but on the other player's screen just have a notification saying "Friendlies from other allied ships inbound" so they know the other CV died and the planes want to "keep alive" so to speak.

Ok you get your planes to land on another CV - my DD torp tubes get miraculously moved to another member of my team - OH wow all of a sudden Yamato has 20km torps on board....

^ well, my point is just for carrier only. In case all of our CV is gone then the planes would go away from the map. And to say "one time" service, it means the aircraft would just launch on the command of another CV only :P

Yeah I don't see why the planes wouldn't try land on another friendly CV vs a terrible death of drowning in the ocean. It would just give that CV a few spare planes not extra squadrons.

If you don't want your planes to return to your wreck you can hold shift to queue up some move commands after the auto attack drop so you could have them patrol the map a little to try spot.

Let's make it so your planes can land on a friendly CV. But these conditions must be met. The friendly US CV is from the same tier. The friendly CV must from the same nation as you. Lastly, you must to be in the same squad as the friendly CV

Do you realized that they knock off the "2 CV division" right :D

^ so yeah, the last requirement would render the option totally impossible to achieve...

Or maybe something is lost in the translation here...

Torps plane need to display correctly. (fly close to the water surface to drop the loads) So the target ship can comfirm that those plane are gonna hit him and can focus fire before it was too late.
