    Devonshire review

I've been playing the British heavy cruiser line a little recently. I got up to Devonshire during the early access event, but never bothered with it until now. My overall impression is this ship is simply straight up bad. It's not competitive at her tier, and has no redeeming qualities. I've played all the cruiser lines except Russia up to at least T8. If Devonshire has a viable playstyle I think I would have found it. The positives: A big heal. Fast acceleration. Moderately nimble. Heavy hitting guns, both HE and AP. High fire chance. Fast turret traverse. Good torpedo firing arcs. Which on paper sounds pretty attractive until you consider, The negatives: Slow, no armor, slow shell velocity, average concealment and short gun range. The reason I say Devonshire is irredeemably bad is that there are only a finite number of maps and outcomes where you can get close enough to hit a target without getting obliterated, and most of those opportunities tend to arise past the 10 minute mark. I'm not saying you won't find those positions, I'm saying that the disadvantage of having to wait around to find them outweighs any gunpower advantage your ship has. I found myself comparing Devonshire to Aoba a lot. Aoba has two less guns, but the guns are very similar in damage output, albeit with better dispersion and longer range. Aoba has enough armor to open water kite or even bow tank effectively. And enough speed to get in and out of trouble. Aoba is flat out just a consistently more useful and effective heavy cruiser than Devonshire.

    Hipper build?

Alright, you know who you are. I need your advice. I'm too much of an Atago hand to properly "get" Hipper. I'm missing the little tricks. I'm playing like a regular IJN heavy cruiser and it's just mediocre - because, obviously, it's not an IJN heavy cruiser. I get that its tankier, and I make use of that, I get that the HE has 1/4 pen. I get that the AP is good at close range. It's just not coming together and I struggle to pull over 40k dmg. First off, I need to sort out the choice of modules and captain skills. Prioritize AA or invest in survivability? Concealment or rudder shift?
  4. G'day Folks, Final episode of the line... BLUF on T10 Goliath, as usual noob/skillz ratings at the end... If I could get some love on reddit that'd be amazing! (Link below video) Like comment at YouTube/as you like. Did you guys end up deciding what the next set of BLUFs would be? Enjoy!
  5. G'day Folks, Latest BLUF is good and raring to go, this time on T9 RN CA - Drake! Hope you guys enjoy it! As usual, please throw me some likes/comments on YT and reddit. All feedback welcome - feel free to roast me!
  6. G'day Folks, So here we are, BLUF for Albemarle... @Project45_Opytny, @dejiko_nyo. Video includes a build, including comments on other options and as with the more recent additions there's noob-o-meter and skill-o-meter rating as well. Shout-out to @Rub1c0n, who features in chat at around 07:26. For those with reddit, please see the reddit link and comment/upvote - see if we can crack the salt-wall. Thoughts?
  7. G'day folks... I have another video up, this time it's a review on Surrey... Pretty good ship, I've also popped an easter egg in there for Commonwealth theorycrafters... Nothing overly different to what I've posted on it before, only this time you could almost use it as a 'leak' Enjoy... Reddit - because I'm yet to break through the salt-shield...
  8. Sup folks, Got another episode of BLUF, this time with Devonshire... Strangely enough no foul language was needed for this one. If you guys have time, leave a like/comment in YouTube and Reddit, I really appreciate it. Hope you guys enjoy it - o7 Oh and if you couldn't tell, I quite like Devonshire, even bottom tier, or perhaps that's just because Hawkins was so painful? And if you guys could show some love on reddit, that'd be great;
  9. A bit of a disclaimer: the estimated HP, based on the ships’ standard/full displacement, for the ships aren’t 100% accurate (no longer seems to be accurate). WarGaming may use different sources for the ships’ displacements. It’s a formula(s) I stole from someone I know and I do not have the permission to give them to anyone else. My other ship line proposals: All new ships Tier IV: Hawkins-class Tier V: York-class VI: London-subclass (County-class) Norfolk-subclass (County-class) VII: Kent-subclass (County-class) Surrey-class VIII, IX and X: details will be down below The ships: HAWKINS-CLASS TIER 4 YORK-CLASS TIER 5 LONDON-SUBCLASS (COUNTY-CLASS) TIER 6 NORFOLK-CLASS (COUNTY-CLASS) TIER 6 SURREY-CLASS TIER 7 KENT-CLASS (COUNTY-CLASS) TIER 7 CA SKETCH 1/1940 – 12,5k TON TIER 8 CA SKETCH 1/1940 – 15,5k TON TIER 9 CA DESIGN C 1/1941 TIER 9 CA DESIGN iii 3/1941 TIER 9 CA SKETCH 2/1940, 8-INCH TIER 10 CA SKETCH 2/1940, 9,2-INCH TIER 10 CA SKETCH 9/1939, 9,2-INCH TIER 11 I removed the Premiums because they are both out of place and they are so hard to tier.
  10. Now, There was a time when I would always avoid the UK Cruiser tech tree due to their diminutive stature on paper and rather unimpressive armor (my preference being for Heavy Cruisers with emphasis on firepower and gun handling) but oh my my, I have wronged, I feel that perhaps pound for pound, the UK T7 Fiji is the best T7 Cruiser and after Minotaur perhaps the best cruiser in the UK cruiser line overall. This being reinforced by one of the many successful and often satisfying games I had in the Fiji as shown above. So, to get to the point, what's your opinion, which is the best Cruiser for you guys at Tier 7. Regards, Swapnil.
  11. I've seen many of my teammates are unsupportive. Primarily, cruisers. I found some of them are a bit ignorant with their teams or their own ships. For example, a player was using a Des Moines. However that player didn't use the radar or hydro. I already reminded them through chat. But they are still didn't responed me. So then, my friendly DD decided to checked the cap and yes there are enemy DD in the cap. And he killed it. Now the job of a cruiser with their friendly BB is important. When a BB is detected or a cap is randomly taken by the enemy, it's the cruisers job to pop radar and banish the DD but some players out there are ignorant with their ships ability. Cruisers primarily, has so many advantage against BB. Now I know I should stick to CA, or CL. But what is the purpose of protecting them if they are ignorant in the battle anyway? -_-

    Ranked XP issues...

So basically after getting to rank 9 I'm down at 11/0. My issue is thus, I get 100k+ damage in Zao + caps, get 3rd XP if I'm lucky, same story with Hindy. I get 100k in Yamato and top XP consistently on losses. This is not even to mention DDs. I'm starting to think T10 XP is very BB biased and subsequently this is why we're seeing games at 10+ with 0 DDs... I'm a good Zao player, particularly in CB or ranked, yet I perform superbly in her and won't top XP on a loss outside a monster game. Yet in Yamato, I'm average, I have what I would consider an average game and I find it easy AF to get top XP on a loss. Thus I reach the conclusion that BB is better for ranking up. Thoughts?

    Conditions on Matchmaker

I like to suggest that add condition on the matchmaker on Random Battles such as 'There shouldn't have match with less than 5 players on each them'.

    How to not be potato

What I have noticed is that I am not being able to produce a good damage output from my games. It hasn't crossed 100k since the first few days of playing Co op in wows and play terribly in Random. And I am starting to think that I am missing out on something. Specially from Battleships my average is around 14-16k only. And seeing that up in warships today feels like shit. Anyone can help me with not being a potato with low-mid teir Bbs(German and Japanese), Cl/Ca(French, Japanese and British) and DDs (Americans)? Been terribly sucking at random matches.
  15. Spood Beest of French really need revamp. First, it SLOW in term of reaching max speed. Second, it speed decrease when turning as same as not active. Third, the French line really need buff in term of speed when turning (when speed boost active). so here is my idea to buff the Spood Beest : 1. faster acceleration to reach max speed 2. lower the the decreasing speed when turning 3. increase dispersion fired at your ship by 50% here's the problem about the French Ship T6 and T7 cause they are snail. 31 knot max speed and you are almost as slow as T8 BB, also the turning radius is crap too. when you go to the wrong flank (no enemy there or deleted already) you will reposition and move to another flank. the problem is Spood Beest accelerated so slowly AND LOSING SPEED A LOT WHEN TURNING. in the end.... its TOO LATE ooOOSSSHH crap MY DAMAGE WHEN TOO LOW -_- or when you want to retreat, when ASWD the speed lose is so crap....... and how did the unicum get consistent ++100K damage. beside a good aim, the position of the ship is important right? also do you think RDF is good commander skill to get? isnt its nice when you know where is the enemy heading?

    Atago

OK, so I just want to say something up front, I effing love the Atago... Best premium anything I ever bought in WoT/WoWS... It isn't cause she does well with the credits... It's because I never feel like vsing one or playing one is 'OP' or a waste. She is simply bang for buck and fun to play. So just wanted to say to WG - thankyou for the Atago, she has been a close friend since I picked her up just after release. In other news, I had taken a 6-ish month hiatus due to work and Overwatch, yes I'm back for at least a bit. WTF has happened to pen/armour... Basically you can get cita'd etc from really silly angles now. Not to mention the HE pens, my gawd... Previous system wasn't really broken, it felt like there was a few silly pens and some that should but didn't work but IMO it was 150% better than the way things are now. My guess is there was some sort of patch to do with armour/round mechanics and they've overdone it a fair bit. Hopefully the current state of play isn't what they intended with whatever changes happened...
  17. The Des Moines also has the lowest range out of all T10 heavy cruisers, and its shell tracery has always made it better in close quarters. But getting up close gives you even less time to avoid incoming fire, and completely avoiding battleship shells is practically the only possible way for a Des Moines to neglect damage, while other heavy cruisers can angle and bounce instead. Look at the armor screenshots I have attached below, the Des Moines has the worse overall armor amongst all heavy cruisers (Minotaur is not included, but it has great concealment, a smoke screen and very powerful Repair Party Consumable and it is a light cruiser) The Zao has an extra layer protecting the citadel (although 25mm), also forming a slight turtleback, just like the Hindenburg. Their citadels are lower in the water and not as wide as the Des Moines Please, World Of Warships development team, consider giving Des Moines better armor Thanks for reading, good luck on the high seas
  18. Firstly, I wanna talk about MM from different Classes are suffering..... How it effects the player base.... CVs :- I think it is time for CVs to have +/-1 MM because they are having to face lot of advantages in some cases and as well as disadvantages.... I don't wanna speak about Loadouts and all because I'm not a CV player but I've played them and seen how they have been played to some extent..... We all know that compared to population of other 3 Classes CV Population is extremely low.... Maybe because CVs are limited to 2 in T4,T5,T6 and from T8 are limited to 1 per side.... And I consider this is balanced.... Now why I want +/-1 MM for CVs is that they find it very hard to counter ships which are +2 tier from them... and the ships which are -2 tier from them are being abused... by closing the gap you can give CV better chance to improve and other ships to have an understanding over how to over come CVs...... For example (CVs having to face +2 ships) lot of CV players agree to this If you are in a Independence or Ryujo facing NCs or Amagi they are hard to even get close to... and sometimes they are the only lowest tier in the match.... which makes them feel useless.... For example (CVs having to face -2 ships) Well CV players find it extremely easy to DS any ship they want which is really not good for the gameplay sakes.... BBs :- This class in particularly solely depends mostly depends upon RNG other than player's skill.... And most of the players consider has enjoyed lot of privileges... which it has been but is struggling in mid tiers... and Mid tiers is the place where players get a grip on how to play or how to do stuff... But most of the matches being +2 makes players to think T7 ships are overpowered and where as T7 ships completely over power T5 ships... Every line has it's speciality but by making them play against far more advanced ships is covering all the advantages it has and making a player think they are useless..... And Almost all of the players might agree due to the current MM only Konig is playable ship... And mid tier players like me are being effected by the playstyle adapted by the players in those tiers... They adapt to passive style and make a foundation for their own loss..... Competitive players straight up blame the WG for making such bad MM and eventually leaving the game... CAs :- This Class is most enjoyable class than any class in the game... But is being overwhelmed by the MM... at times MM gives a team all the T5 ships and as their counter it gives T6 ships to enemy team and in some cases goes bizarre and puts up T5 vs T7... Being less armored itself leaves player with fear in his mind and making MM like this makes player Yolo and by that putting his own team at disadvantage... In reality MM has done the mistake and player has to bare the disappointment... And by this players don't even want to move up the tiers anymore... it is just hard to even earn any xp or credits... DDs :- This Class has different problem compared to other classes... It is the most suffered class by MM... because DDs are classified into gunboats and torpedo boats and USN DDs being in the mid... MM at times in domination puts all the gunboats on one side and torpedo boats on other side... Which means Gunboats have better probability of winning the cap vs Torpedo boats... and at times MM puts only one DD on one team and no DD on the other team, on the Domination mode... I don't think this can be changed but it leaves a huge impact on the outcome of the match itself... Conclusion :- This game particularly depends upon MM to survive... and MM itself being faulty is a huge disadvantage to the gameplay... And due to MM lot of players are leaving the game(In the small amounts ofc) but if this goes on someday there will be no player base in T5-T6 to make a match... I'm talking about new incoming players wanting to continue with T5 and T6 grinds or move over to the next game. (Mainly about Increasing the current player base) This is my Opinion... Feel free to agree or disagree... Edit :- This was today's MM why cannot we make the MM like this???

How do you guys play each class?

So how is all your general playstyle for each and every class in the game?
  20. Belulfast has radar, smoke, sonar except for trops. seriously. That premium can smoke and radar up then steamroll on the dd.Only consumable that Belulfast missing is the health boost of atago. Please provide them as well.I thought WOWS is free to play,Looks like Premium ship are going OP when compared to the normal ones. Lol,imagine T5 and T6 dd playing against this ship.Come on WG at least give Pensacola some reduced concealment.15.6 km is a nightmare. Rant over. Sauce:Twitch and you tube
  21. You guys probably have seen my last post regarding the Tirpitz's AP. Then I remembered that the USN CA line also have inferior AP damage. THIS sounds completely unreasonable, as USN cruisers at high tiers do not have torpedoes, have inferior range and inferior shell flight time. German CA have good AP but bad HE so Im not going to complain about them. Russians have bad detection range, less AA and a massive citadel, reasonable balanced. But the IJN shells are just way superior, they have the best HE damage, best fire chance, great range, more guns than USN and better shell travel time. But the problem is their AP does more damage than USN cruisers, they also have torpedoes, making IJN shells pretty much superior to everyone else in general (AP and HE combined) I originally planned to ditch the IJN CA line as I wasn't a big fan of spamming HE until tier 10, but now I realised their AP is extremely powerful I think I will resume that line Yes, the USN does have the complete superiority in AA defence, but the Hindernberg and I believe the Roon too, have the AA power to match their American counter parts while doing better in main battery damage. The lack of CV playersin high tiers also maks the USN AA completely useless. I don't even run defensive AA on my Baltimore anymore, I use hydro and radar as it is just way more useful rightnow. PLEASE WG, GIVE THE USN CRUISERS THEIR PURPOSE BACK. BUFF THE CARRIERS OR GIVE US BETTER GUNS. My Des Moines will most likely be brought and will stay in port for most of my play time as high tiers just isnt good right now. I am going a bit off topic, but please, give the USN cruisers their purpose back and fix the high tier battles aswell
  22. So I already created this topic in the Suggestion thread, but now I would like to see what the Discussion thread thinks about this idea. So one night I was playing in my Tirpitz sailing the high seas when out of the blue I saw a USS DB and a TB squadron making a bee line for me. I already had my BB's fighter in the air waiting for enemy planes to get closer, and as the two enemy squadrons got closer (around 7km) I went ahead and CTRL click the TB since I view them as more of a threat. Here's where my problem comes in, even though I chose to focus on the TD sq with AA, my fighter plane determined that he would go for the DB sq since they were closer to him (by like 100-200m) as he flew his patrol, and since none of the enemy TB were shot down on their approach I ended up eating 4 torps from that fly by, mean while my fighter shot down 3 DB before they could even reach my ship (wishing that he would have done this to the TBs instead). Now since my short story is over I'll get to the summery. I'm suggesting that WG should give BB's and CA's that have fighter planes the ability select an enemy sq and focus on it in a similar fashion like the ships AA's do. If I CTRL click a enemy plane sq then my fighter (if in the air) should also focus that squadron as well. [This part is not necessary for the main suggestion to work, just an idea] So we can't just allow this as a default function for BB's and CA's right away, there should be a way to earn this ability to use in game. I propose that if you want to be able to tell your fighter to focus then you will need to research a commander skill (maybe a tier 3 or 4 skill). This will force players to pick and choose this skill against other skills. Also I would like to point out that your fighter will still only be bound to patrol within his normal fight radius and you will not have any control on his fight pattern, he will circle over head like normal. Now this is something I would like to see implemented, it makes sense that your ship should be able to communicate with the pilot and tell him which enemy sq. to focus (it's not like he doesn't have a radio up there). Let me know what the rest of you think about this.

    New Orleans Tips?

Hey Guys Ever since I sold my cardboard Pensacola, which despite its bad armour had some rather punchy 8" guns, the New Orleans doesn't feel like an improvement and given the fact you face tier 10's and Yamato's now , its improved armour doesn't really compensate for much. Its guns have a slightly better RoF, but also feels like they have worse trajectories and slow shells, and meh damage. I've kitted the ship out with range upgrades, camo and got the demolition expert captains perk (working to get camo skill as well) but still struggle to put out damage with this ship. Any tips on improving my playstyle and making ends meet?

  25. So with the Monday Blues, I thought I'd share my ideas of what candidate ships the upcoming British cruiser line may have: Tier 1: No idea, any random gunboat will do Tier 2: Active class / Town Class (includes HMAS Sydney)(either a 4" shell spammer like the Dresden or a typical 6" light cruiser like Chikuma/Albany) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active-class_cruiser https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town-class_cruiser_(1910) Tier 3:Monmouth Class (typical armoured cruiser, another St Louis type) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monmouth-class_cruiser Tier 4: Emerald Class (Like a better Karlsruhe) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald-class_cruiser Tier 5: Leander Class (Australians and New Zealanders rejoice!) - Graf Spee better run https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leander-class_cruiser_(1931) Tier 6: York Class (Rival to the Aoba and a smaller version of the County class with 6x8" guns) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/York-class_cruiser Tier 7:County Class Heavy Cruisers (the only Heavy 8" gun cruisers of the RN in WW2, armor too light for tier 8, kinda like Pepsicola but with torps) or Dido Class AA cruisers (kinda like Atlanta, maybe a premium?) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dido-class_cruiser https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County-class_cruiser Tier 8: Crown Colony Class? A suitable rival to the Soviet Mikail Kutuzov with 12x6" guns - HMS Belfast as a tier 8 Premium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Colony-class_cruiser Tier 9: A Paper Cruiser design? - Apparently there was a design in the old British naval history books (from a book called "From Nelson to Vanguard") that had 9x8" guns and displaced 15,000 - 18,000 tons, the later design having 6" belt armor Tier 10: Another Paper Cruiser? - I also heard there were some paper 9.2" gun Cruisers for the RN (from the same book) that never took off the drawing board...A worthy rival to the Moskva? http://warships1discussionboards.yuku.com/topic/22572#.Vu8DXvl97IU Given the lack of heavy cruiser designs for the RN, I assume the Royal Navy will kind be like the Russians in having a 6" gunned "light cruisers" going up to tier 8 as well, while the ships of the lower tiers would be rivals with the German cruisers.
