So.... The Donskoi, how do I play this thing?

So after a while of grinding on the Donskoi, I've set upon a playstyle for this seriously mediocre T9 cruiser. Use the range mod to get 20km range on the guns. Using AP against all targets at sub 16km range unless shooting up angled German BB or Yamato. Don't bother with IFHE, the AP damage is much more consistent. Also, constantly having AP loaded has the advantage of deleting some unwary broadside cruisers. The fires are incredibly sporadic and rather trollish ( I tested out the fire chance and got a fire on a average of 30-40 hits). This cruiser cannot survive for long with reload mod since it's poor concealment DOES NOT allow it to disengage when overwhelmed, and since radar range is shorter than your 12.3km(best possible) conceal, the DD who's keeping you spotted will be able to shadow you with ease if he's not a total potato. Don't expect much damage in this ship, but if you play safely and with range module, you can do a reasonable amount of damage (but not at all worthy of a T9 ship) and be consistent in all games, you just carry your own weight and hope for your team to win. That's the best idea I've had. The WASD hacks don't really help you against T10 BB since any hit they land on you WILL pen and the hits really add up even if you're hit only by one shell every now and then. This ship cannot duel with cruisers if they get within 15km due to this things poor armor, poor maneuverability, poor DPM and poor concealment. You can have some luck dealing with Royal Navy cruisers thanks to your radar and good AP, but don't even think about going against Minotaurs since it has torps and absurd DPM to wreck you with. So far, the best idea I've come up with is to spec for AA and sail around with your second line BB. I'm averaging about 72k dmg and have 110k exp left for Moskva. I'll be glad to sell this thing as soon as I unlock Moskva. If you want a nice HE spammer T9 cruiser, get a Saint-Louis, it's much better than the Donskoi, better range, Bigger guns that for some reason reload faster , better fire chance, better conceal, better maneuverability, similar AA and similar armor

So.... The Donskoi, how do I play this thing?

It's not because of fires, I used IFHE without Demo expert until I got Donskoi, the raw HE damage from 152 is much more consistent even in T10 games. (Sadly, Kutuzov is getting into more and more T10 games lately)

So.... The Donskoi, how do I play this thing?

My problem is not dodging fire and taking damage, it's making a impact it the battle. My basic problem is that, to make an impact in the game, I have to play super aggressively, and if I do, I am not at a safe distance to avoid BB fire. I saw the Flamu video long ago and decided that only the Shchors was a hiccup in the Russian CA line, but the irony was that my favorite ship after the Kutuzov is a actually the Shchors, you can do extremely well in her on random battles if you know what you're doing (I averaged almost 1k bxp without prem account). Hope you find the Donskoi to be all that you expected it to be. I, unfortunately, was seriously let down

So.... The Donskoi, how do I play this thing?

I used to do at least 70-90k in an okay game in both Shchors and chapayev, but in Donskoi, I struggle to cross 50k.... My average damage in the Shchors and Chapayev hover around the 60k mark despite the stock ship and captain leveling struggles. The best I've had so far in the Donskoi is an 80k dmg game, and that was because it involved a few torpedo hits and close range AP shenanigans. I've had a lot of 100k+ games in the 152 cruisers, broken 150k a few times too, IMO, Kutuzov is the best Russian CA till T9

So.... The Donskoi, how do I play this thing?

If I go for this playstyle, why would I play Donskoi instead of the Baltimore or the new Saint-Louis? They have bigger guns that reload faster and have better armor (although not by much), hell, I've done better in the Ibuki than the Donskoi thanks to IJN HE, great torpedos and better maneuverability.
  6. I was looking forward to the Donskoi, a fan of the the Soviet 152 cruisers, I thought the Donskoi was a supercharged Kutuzov. Oh, how wrong I was.... The conceal isn't as good as the ones before, it's not a big issue, I can live with it. It has good maneuverability (comparatively) and decent rudder. The guns are my biggest gripe, I'm doing much less average damage with 180 HE than my 152 HE (using IFHE on both). I suspect it is due to the higher 152 arcs causing them to land on the deck while the 180s mostly hit the gun turrets. The longer reload results in poorer DPM (I'm using the range mod since 17.8km range with 12.3km conceal is absolutely atrocious in T10 games). The AA is good, but there are very few carriers and when there is one, they mostly avoid my no-fly zone and I have to go plane hunting. The fire chance combined with lower fire rate means that it is not good enough to be a reliable fire starter. The torpedos are the same as Kutuzov, I'm not expecting more. I tried escorting my BB, but the enemies focused me down. So, that brings me to my question, how do I play the Donskoi?

    Supercontainer Rewards

I understand what you mean, just wanted to clarify I dont mean to rub salt into your wounds, but after the drop rate buff, I have gotten atleast one SC in a week if I get 2 containers per day. Its all just RNG I guess, one day, I actually got 2 supercontainers (both "unique" modules )

    Supercontainer Rewards

Definitely agree. The normal upgrades are too valuable to be swapped out for these unique modules. They promote a very specific playstyle, and it will be costly to switch to other play styles when needed. A extra slot for unique module upgrades would be a definite step in the right direction. (Again, just my opinion)

    Supercontainer Rewards

I didn't mean SC's are dropping too often. It's just that the rewards from SC are too often unique module upgrades.

    Supercontainer Rewards

That sounds quite plausible. I've received 3 units of Radar Mods even though I didn't have a radar ship until a few days ago

    Supercontainer Rewards

I personally love the idea of giving away free containers for just playing the game, its a nice bonus from WG. When the supercontainer drop chance was buffed, I was genuinely surprised considering the rewards that those gave. But after I received and opened up a bunch of supercontainers, I was sorely disappointed by the amount of "Unique" module upgrades I received. I have never used these module upgrades on any ships and am very skeptical about their benefits (It is just my opinion). But receiving so many of those upgrades, some which can only be used on ships I don't even have, (which were promptly sold off for credits) makes me very salty and irritated, especially on some days when I specially took time off to play the game just for a chance at those containers. Even the 4 flag reward is more useful to me than these modules. Does anybody else feel that supercontainers are rewarding these modules far too much?
